Plan And Purpose of
Warriors For Christ |
Mission Statement
Warriors for Christ is an outreach ministry that was started by Prof. Kirk
Steward. The goal of Warriors for Christ is to teach the good news of the gospel
of Jesus Christ using the traditional style of Shinsei Wado-Ryu Karate-Do as
well as other Martial Arts and fitness programs as learning vehicles.
Purpose
The purpose of Warriors for Christ ministries is twofold.
(1) To reach and Evangelize the lost: I see so many kids these days that lack
direction and purpose and need Jesus, but they wouldn’t set foot in a church if
you paid them. In my area there is so little for the unchurched teen to do but
get in trouble. I would like to offer area youth a positive, highly structured
alternative to partying, cruzing and all the other perilous activities they
currently have available. Today’s youth are desperately seeking acceptance and
validation and they will go to great lengths to get it. Many of today’s youth
have little or no parental guidance or mentoring of any kind and most likely
will not receive any kind of acceptance or validation that is positive and
constructive. Not only does Warriors for Christ offer acceptance and guidance as
well as teaching discipline, honor, courtesy, respect and many more positive
character traits, but we also teach that there is a God in Heaven who Loves and
accepts these young people just as they are and thinks that their lives are so
valid and worthwhile that He died on a cross for them.
(2) To disciple Christians in their faith: Christian Martial Arts are on the
cutting edge of Christian discipleship for the 21st century. The 20th century
saw the church emasculating its men and taming its women to the point of where
the majority of Christians don’t have the courage to boldly take the love of
Christ to a dieing world and at the same time stand up against the works of
Satan. The majority of Christians in the church today wouldn’t walk across the
street for Jesus and are bound by spirits of self-centeredness and timidity. I
believe the church is in dire need of a ministry like Warriors for Christ. I see
a church where kids are lacking discipline and direction and I see a church
where adults are complacent and afraid to stand up for what is right and do so
in love. A ministry like WFC that truly teaches people how to be “Seija” (a
Japanese term for “Holy Soldier”, or “Christian Samurai”) is so desperately
needed. Just imagine, if you will, a church full of Christians who are as
obedient, devoted, disciplined and ready to serve their Lord as the old Samurai
were. The difference is that instead of a sword of steel they are wielding the
“Sword of the Spirit” which is God’s Word and the Love of Jesus, and instead of
an earthly lord they are serving a Risen Savior who is King of Kings and Lord of
Lords. Both young and old alike need to be discipled in the ways of Christ in a
honorable manner and at the same time taught that it is ok to be bold in their
faith like those twelve men of 2000 years ago who took this world by storm for
Jesus.
The Plan
OK, so all of this is sounding good, right? But now you may be asking how can
you help? I’m the kind of guy who doesn’t like to beat around the bush so I will
be straight forward and blunt. We need your prayers and we need your money. We
do not wish to be just another “church karate club” nor do we want to go through
secular business avenues. We feel that Warriors For Christ should be funded in a
different manner. In Acts 4:32 it says, “All the believers were one in heart and
mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared
everything they had.” Because of this and many other Biblical principals, we
believe that Warriors For Christ would be better served by being funded and
sponsored by and through the body of Christ instead of being indebted to a
secular financial institution. We also feel that we could reach more people if
we were not just another church program. There are many kids that we could reach
if we were not using the church facilities but had a place in the community of
our own. That is why we are asking churches, Christian ministries, Christian
business’s and even individual Christians to help support and fund this outreach
ministry. I don’t believe that you are reading this by accident.
Ways To Support WFC
There are two ways in which we would like to have Warriors For Christ supported,
the general fund and student scholarships. The general fund would be for
operating expenses only. We feel that all operating expenses must come first as
we don’t want to ever have to worry about having to close our doors because we
can’t pay the bills. Therefore, rent/mortgage, operating expenditures and the
like will all come out of the general fund. Staff salaries and extra
expenditures will come strictly out of student tuition or membership dues.
Although our goal is to be full time with Warriors For Christ and we believe
that the worker is worth his wages, my wife and I are self employed and intend
to always have some form of additional income just as the Apostle Paul had his
tent making enterprise.
More About The General Fund
The nuts and bolts of our general fund are not concreted as of yet. We need to
have some pledged support before we proceed. However, we can give you a ballpark
figure from our research into the matter. We would need a minimum of 2,000
square feet of operating area but would prefer closer to 4,000 square feet. The
rent in the Caledonia area for such space ranges between $2,000.00 and $6,000.00
per month. If you add up other business expenditures such as utilities, office
supplies, advertising, insurance and so forth, it would roughly be around
$3,000.00 per month, give or take. This gives us a grand total ballpark figure
of between $5,000.00 and $9,000.00 per month or $60,000.00 - $108,000.00 per
year. This may initially seem like a large amount, however, there are several
factors that need to be considered. The first thing to consider is that these
figures are at the high end of the scale. When all is said and done our actual
expenditures may be much less. Also, one of the main expenditures is
rent/lease/mortgage. If some Christian business man were to say, donate the use
of warehouse or business space, this would eliminate this expenditure. Of
course, the most important thing to consider is that Our Father in Heaven owns
the cattle on a thousand hills and if we follow His plan, and all work together
as one body, there is NOTHING we cannot accomplish.
What About Scholarships?
I mentioned that I would like to have a student scholarship program. We intend
to have a “required donation” minimum or you may call it tuition or membership
dues if you will. These dues/tuition will allow all members’ access to every
class and program available, but they will be mandatory for continuation of
lessons. Whether you want to call it dues or tuition, the national average for
professional Martial Arts/fitness instruction is between $75.00 and $300.00+ per
month. ($900.00 - $3,600.00+ per year) We intend to offer lessons at a
substantially lower rate of $60.00 per month with early payment and family
discounts available. But even at this low, low rate, there are many kids who
could benefit from involvement with WFC who will not be able to afford to pay
regularly. This is where our scholarship program comes into action. We intend to
offer full scholarship programs for school age children and partial scholarships
as well. School age students who apply for a scholarship MUST have good grades
in school and maintain a minimum of a B grade average (or equivalent) for
partial scholarships and an A average for full scholarships in order to remain
eligible. All scholarship recipients, whether full scholarships or partial
scholarships, must maintain good attendance at WFC and must keep in touch with
their scholarship sponsor and provide said sponsor with a quarterly written
progress report. If a scholarship sponsor wishes to remain anonymous then the
recipient student will still be required to write a quarterly report for
submission to the Warriors For Christ website. We will encourage all students to
go with partial scholarships and provide various fund raising opportunities for
them to raise the remainder of their tuition. We will do this to help teach and
foster a good work ethic, sense of pride, belonging and ownership. Adult
students who are not going to college or other schooling on a full time basis
will only be eligible for partial scholarships.
In Conclusion!!!
As I mentioned before, I don’t believe you are reading this by accident. I
believe it is by divine appointment that you have been led to see what WFC is
all about. Whether the Lord leads you to sponsor a scholarship, donate to the
general fund, provide a building or other facility or offer the vital prayer
that we need so much, I believe that the Lord will bless you richly through your
involvement with Warriors For Christ ministries. We all at WFC thank you so very
much for taking the time to consider your place in this growing ministry. May
Gods best blessings be poured out upon you.!!! For more information please
